Here is a list of frequently asked questions that we have compiled to help you understand more about our program.

Q:  How can I learn more about your coach training program and what can I expect?

     A:  We offer a free information session once per month to help orient new students to our training program.  See more here:  http://www.iwscoachinginstitute.com/content/introductory-sessions

Q. How long does it take to complete your coach training program?

     A: Our training program is a flexible model that allows students to complete the program at their own pace. Students can take a combination of classroom and distant learning to get through the program faster.

Q:  Where can I find more information on the courses you offer?

Q:  Where can I find more information on your training modules and certification process?

     A:  By attending the information session.

Q:  How do I know if I even qualify to take the program?

     A:  Please contact us in order to complete a self assessment that will help you identify if you have the basics of becoming a Coach.

Q:  How do I get started?

     A:  You get started by registering to attend the training and information session and by registering for module I.

Q:  Are there any prerequisites required before starting the training?

     A:  Yes, to attend the information session and to register for module I.

Q:  What does one need to complete the program?

     A:  One needs to attend all required courses, complete all required practicum hours, complete all required mentor coaching sessions,   and complete the written exam.

Q:  Can these courses be taken online or classroom or both?

      A:  We offer three streams for students to take classes.  We have classroom days and evenings as well as distant learning formats that are comprised of online classes.

Q:  Can the training be completed through correspondence?

      A:  No, we do not provide training via correspondence.  We do not believe one can effectively learn coaching competencies via correspondence.

Q:  Do you offer distance training such as internet modules or Skype/phone training?

     A:  Yes, we now offer a distant learning stream for students around the world.  Through this method you will have live interactions with your instructor and other participants and you will also be able to share your thoughts and comments and ask questions.

Q:  Do I have to pay for the entire certification upfront?

     A:  No, our program requires you to pay per course.

Q:  What is the cost to take the modules?

     A:  Currently, each module costs $335 plus GST and our advanced modules are $345 plus GST.  Our module cost will increase in September 2012.

Q:  Do you charge a registration fee?

      A:  Yes, we charge a one-time registration fee of $165, which will be increased to $200 as of September 2012.

Q:  Is there any special funding available?

     A:  Some of our students are funded by there employers or private sponsors, however there is no special funding available for coach training.

Q:  Do I have to take all the courses or can I pick and choose which ones I think would benefit me?

     A:  Yes, you can pick the courses that you would like or feel will be of benefit to you, however, we recommend that you take modules I - V before you attempt taking any of the intermediate modules.

Q:  Is your training program affiliated with the University?

     A:  Our certified coaches will earn transfer credits to the University of Manitoba Continuing Education CACE program.  We are also exploring affiliations with other institutions.

Q:  Is your school an International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited school?

      A:  No, our school adheres to the ICF core competencies and code of ethics and we train our students to do so.  We do intend to pursue the ICF accreditation in 2013.

Q:  What are the opportunities I would gain from taking any of the courses?

     A:  Coaching provides immense growth in the area of personal and professional development, as well you will improve your leadership, communication and listening skills, and learn how to engage in non-threatening conversations.

Q:  What types of career opportunities would be available following taking the course?

      A:  Coaches are able to work and excel in many fields including: customer service; social services; management; and human resources.  Many certified coaches also choose to have a private practice to supplement their income.

Q:  How long is each course module?

     A:  Each course module is 6.5 hours in length.

Q:  What are the prerequisites for one to take the Interpersonal Wellness Coaching Diploma (IWCD) courses?

     A:  One would need to have a coach certification from an International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited school or hold the IWCC to be eligible to take IWCD diploma course modules.

Q:  How many hours of training make up the International Wellness Certified Coach (IWCC) certification?

    A:  To complete the IWCC you will need 85 coach training hours and 60 hours of practicum peer coaching.  This includes 12 course   modules equivalent to 75 coach training hours and 10 hours of mentor coaching.  In addition you are required to complete the IWCC   exam.

Q:  How does the IWCC certification differ from the Interpersonal Wellness Coaching diploma (IWCD)?

     A:  To complete the IWCD, one will need to have a total of 150 coach training hours plus 36 hours of practicum coaching hours.  This includes advanced mentor coaching of 13 hours.

Q:  Why would one take the IWCD when they already have the IWCC?

      A:  The IWCD course modules are advanced practitioner modules designed to help practicing coaches improve their coaching expertise and add tools to their coaching tool kit.  In addition, taking those modules will provide Coaches with the required number of coaching credits to apply for the International Coach Federation ACC and PCC designations.

Q:  Once I am certified, is this certification only recognized within Canada?

      A:  No, our certification is recognized globally, our school offers world class coach training.
